Spotted Lake 1

Manitoba might be the land of 100,000 lakes, but we can’t lay claim to the oddest one. This is Spotted Lake, which lies in the heart of B.C.’s Okanagan Valley. Known as a kliluk in nsyilxcen, it is a site of deep spiritual and cultural significance for the Syilx Okanagan people. • Througout winter and into spring, this lake looks like any other, however, as the summer sun grows hotter and its rays beat down on the lake, water evaporates. As the water level drops, interesting shapes begin to break the surface. . Amazing capture by @solusrex! #cbcdocs #becausecanada #lovecbc

Но вообще-то ходить и тем более плавать тут нельзя. Дело в том, что из-за огромной пользы и необычного вида индейцы племени Оканаган, обитающие в этих местах, назвали Клилук священным озером. Так что туристы могут любоваться им издалека.

A 30 second long exposure of Spotted Lake just outside Osoyoos, B.C. Spotted Lake used to be open to the public, but due to public access liability concerns, the area is now closed to visitors. You can however still see the lake from behind the barrier fencing. The aboriginal name for the lake is Kliluk, and is a sacred site for the First Nations people of the Okanagan Valley. Although the area is clearly marked with Private Property and No Trespassing signs, people constantly duck under the fence to get a better view. There’s no need for that. I was able to take this and other shots because I contacted the Sylix Nation administration office and politely asked for permission to access their property and photograph the lake. They were more than happy to grant me permission so long as I agreed not to actually enter the lakebed. Ask politely and be respectful and it’s amazing what happens. Thank you very much for viewing my work, and thank you VERY MUCH for more than 2 MILLION views on my Flickr account. That’s unbelievable!! I really very much appreciate all the positive comments and praise I receive on my work. Receiving likes and comments on my images is always appreciated! I’m glad so many people enjoy my work. Stopped by Spotted Lake the other day and managed to get a few shots with the drone. I still can’t believe that this is a natural lake, it’s so unique and its colours are insane! #explorebc @djispark_official

Today’s location: Spotted Lake, BC Photographer: @vanessarachfalski • Originally known to the First Nations of the Okanagan Valley as Kliluk, Spotted Lake was for centuries and remains revered as a sacred site thought to provide therapeutic waters. During World War I, the minerals of Spotted Lake were used in manufacturing ammunition. Today, there is a roadside sign telling visitors that the lake is a cultural and ecologically sensitive area, and a traditional medicine lake for the Okanagan Syilx people. The lake can be viewed from the fence that has been erected for protection from the liabilities of public access. Many travelers stop to view the site. • Selected by: @jeff_bell_photos • #spottedlake #cascadia #travelcanada #explorebc #pnw #britishcolumbia #canada #bc #explorecanada #hiking #instagram #instagood #fall #autumn #sunset • Make sure to check us out on Facebook and tag #cascadiaexplored on all your adventures in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and N Cali!
